A 40-by-80-foot barn went up in flames on First Line Road between Manotick and Kars early Monday afternoon, but no animals were injured in the blaze, Ottawa Police Services said.
At about 12:19 p.m., 911 calls began coming in reporting smoke and flames from a structure in the 6200 block of First Line Road, and firefighters arrived at the scene to find the barn “fully engulfed”.

The property owner confirmed no animals were inside, they said.
Firefighters were forced to a “defensive attack” — no one enters the structure — but managed to keep the flames from spreading to a nearby barn and a cornfield.
The fire was declared under control at 1:34, fire services said.
The owner used his own heavy equipment to help knock down parts of the barn to find hotspots.
A fire investigator was sent to the scene to find the cause and origin of the fire.
