Each year, there’s a whole host of hair colour trends that inspire our next salon visit. This year, we’ve already seen the likes of Bali blonde, Bridgerton copper and Bambi brown (recently rocked by Michelle Keegan) making waves but now ‘brookie blonde’ is set to be the must-have shade for blondes this season.
In line with the current trend for warmer blonde hues rather than the previously popular cooler, ashy tones, brookie blonde is a mix of traditional blonde and cookie-coloured tones, resulting in an effortlessly sun-kissed finish – think Sofia Richie Grainge or Rita Ora’s flattering hair colours.
“Brookie blonde…is a blend of brown and blonde tones, creating a natural, sun-kissed look that’s versatile and suits all skin tones,” explains Jason Collier, A-list hair stylist and key opinion leader for Jerome Russell Bblonde. “It’s a popular choice because it offers the best of both worlds the sultry depth of brunette with the joyful brightness of blonde.”

If you’re sat in the salon chair and want this exact colour, Jason advises asking for subtly blended highlights and lowlights in both blonde and brown tones (showing your colourist pictures like these ones will also help them to understand what you’re after).
It’s totally doable to whip up this ‘brookie’ hair trend in the comfort of your own home too, but it’s not a project for novices to at-home hair colouring. If you’re already a pro at dyeing your locks yourself and you’re starting with brown hair, kick things off by lightening it with Bblonde Maximum Blonding Bleach Kit No 1, now £4.32 down from £6.49, reports the Mirror. Jason suggests, “Apply the lightener to the mid-lengths and ends first, then to the roots.” He adds, “Rinse and dry your hair after reaching the desired level of lightness.”
He also warns, “Always do a strand test before applying any dye to your whole head to see how the colour develops on your hair, and follow instructions to the letter.”

For that added depth, introduce a touch of light, warm brown using something like L’Oréal Paris Casting Creme Gloss Semi-Permanent Hair Dye in Light Brown, £9.99. “Blend the brown dye slightly into the areas with blonde dye to create a seamless transition. ‘Brookie’ is all about subtlety, so avoid stark contrasts,” Jason advises.
And for the grand finale, a bronde toner is your best friend to banish any unwanted brassy tones and achieve that coveted warm, golden shimmer.
