In excess of 110 tree-related service requests were received following Friday’s hailstorm, the City of Ottawa said Monday.

“Following Friday’s storm, City staff have been working diligently to ensure roads and sidewalks are accessible and that immediate hazards are removed,” Jim Lethbridge, area manager, emergency planning and response, said in an email to this newspaper. “Crews have addressed priority service requests and have completed road patrols to identify streets and sidewalks requiring sweeping operations.”

With crews continued to clean up, and assess the damage and number of downed trees, residents with tree debris were encouraged to bring it to the curb. The email said the city would begin collecting the debris this week. It also said residents could use the city’s leaf and yard waste program, tying branches in bundles less than 1.2 metres long and 60 cm in width, and that individual branches should be tied up if less than 10 centimetres in diameter.
