Details you’ll have missed from Princess Eugenie’s wedding as she celebrate 5th anniversary
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been five years since Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank tied the knot, but the heartwarming day has continued to capture the hearts of royal fans around the world, as the couple celebrated half a decade of marriage on Thursday, 12 October 2023.

To mark the special occasion, Jack and Eugenie shared an adorable video on social media that gave a previously unseen glimpse into their star-studded wedding, which saw a-listers and royals from across the globe step out in style to celebrate the couple’s lifelong union back in 2018.

In the clip, several key moments from behind the scenes were seen for the first time, including both bride and groom’s preparations as they finished their stunning bridal looks before walking down the aisle.

There was even a brand new image shared by the couple in the closing moments of the video, which showed the couple now, five years on since saying “I do” as they posed on a beach with their two children, August and Ernest.

But how many of the small details from Eugenie and Jack’s wedding do you remember?

One of the first moments captured in Eugenie’s retrospective video, is of course her arrival at St.George’s Chapel, on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Driven to the venue in a Rolls Royce, while a royal standard billowed in the air, Princess Eugenie was accompanied by her father Prince Andrew ahead of the ceremony, with her stunning appearance taking the breath away of countless onlookers, who saw her step from the vehicle in her eye-catching and mesmerising wedding dress.

Pre-wedding preparations

In another memorable moment, the couple were seen adding the final touches to their wedding looks in the sentimental video, which included Jack grinning from ear to ear as he pinned on his boutonniere before sharing a sweet and cheeky moment with his groomsmen.

Eugenie was also seen getting ready for her big day, as her dress was originally spotted on a mannequin, before the clip cut to her wearing the figure flattering gown, and completing her look with the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara, which had previously been owned by The Queen Mother, and was loaned to her by the Queen.

Celebrity guest list

When you’re part of the Royal Family, it’s safe to say you’ll have rubbed shoulders with more than a few celebrities in your lifetime, but one detail that stood out to many fans of Jack and Eugenie’s wedding, was how close the couple were to several A-listers, who had made it onto the guest list!

In particular, fans were shocked to have seen stars such as Demi Moore, Kate Moss, Cara Delevigne, Ellie Goulding and Naomi Campbell in attendance at the royal occasion, after discovering they were either close friends of the couple, or Eugenie’s parents Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

Timelessly beautiful wedding dress

One of the standout stars of Eugenie’s wedding, was of course her wedding dress, which marked a huge milestone for the bride, as she proudly showed off her scoliosis surgery scars to the world.

The silk gown, which featured long sleeves and a low sweeping back, was designed by the British fashion designers Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos and created to specifically highlight a modern but feminine silhouette for the blushing bride.

Although seemingly simple on the surface, the dress was a work of wearable art, with many complex details involved beneath the surface, including a corset and complex underskirt which provided a foundation on which a fitted bodice and sweeping train could then be added.

In addition, the fabric for the dress was created at the designers’ studios and featured different symbols in form of “rope-like motifs, woven into a jacquard of silk, cotton and viscose blend” in a special nod to the things that mattered most to the couple.

These included a Scottish thistle, to show “the couple’s fondness for Balmoral”, an Irish shamrock, “a nod to the bride’s [maternal] family”, a York Rose, a reference to her family name of York, and ivy, which represented Ivy Cottage, the couple’s residence at Kensington Palace.

Poignant tradition behind wedding ring

It isn’t a wedding without the exchanging of rings and for her nuptials, Princess Eugenie continued to follow a longstanding royal tradition in which her golden wedding band was crafted from pure Welsh gold.

The Royal Family have traditionally used Welsh gold to create their wedding bands since the Queen Mother married the Duke of York all the way back in 1923 – and most are thought to be fashioned out of Clogau gold from the St. David Gold Mine in Dolgellau, Wales.

Ever since tying the knot in 2018, Eugenie has continued to wear her wedding band alongside her £100,000 engagement ring, which is thought to be the rarest of all royal engagement rings thanks to its stunning pink padparadscha sapphire.

Interestingly, however, Eugenie’s husband Jack does not wear a wedding ring, as he follows the tradition maintained by Prince William and Prince Harry who both opted not to wear a band in day to day life.

Star-studded bridal party

While most traditional bridal parties are made up of close friends and family members, Jack and Eugenie’s wedding also featured a few celebrity faces too, when Robbie Williams and Ada Field’s daughter Coco was invited to be a bridesmaid alongside several other royal children.

Coco in turn, was joined by the Prince and Princess of Wales’ children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, Zara and Mike Tindall’s daughter Mia, and Peter and Autumn Phillips’ daughter Savannah.

Heartwarming reception with the Queen

Although the wedding ceremony itself took centre stage, one little known detail that many fans may have overlooked, is that Queen Elizabeth herself threw a special wedding reception for the couple at Windsor Castle, complete with plenty of Champagne.

The adorable courtesy, which had also been extended to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their special day, served as a testament to Eugenie’s close relationship with her grandmother, who herself received a special curtsey while entering the church to say her vows.
