Dua Lipa’s dewy ‘milk jelly’ mani was the ‘it girl nails’ of the Grammys

Dua Lipa’s dewy ‘milk jelly’ mani was the ‘it girl nails’ of the Grammys

When it comes to red carpet beauty, we tend to get focus on two main things – a celebs hair and makeup. It’s no surprise, as they’re hard to miss and can make or break an outfit, however there’s often one subtle part of their outfit that often gets overlooked – their nails.

Although we probably don’t spend nearly as much time examining a celebs hands as we do their face or dress, there’s often just as much thought and care that goes into their manicure as there is their makeup, and this year’s Grammys was no exception, as we spotted one nail design in particular that we reckon is going to be big this year.

Dua Lipa paired her metallic silver maxi dress with a glossy nude milky jelly manicure that’s been dubbed the ultimate IT girl nails of the Grammy’s by celebrity manicurist Tinu Bello, who added: “This trend will continue to be so popular, the look is beautifully elegant and looks as though nails are dewy and sunkissed”

The Dance the Night singer’s nails were done by nail artist Kim Truong, who painted her nails with a subtle, shimmery milky jelly nail varnish that’s sheer enough to let Dua’s natural nails peek through, but still looks polished and chic, making it the perfect manicure to wear everywhere from a red carpet to your office.

Kim shaped Dua’s nails into a rounded square shape that we’ve already spotted on other celebs like Taylor Swift and Meghan Markle, confirming our prediction that square nails are the must-have shape for 2024, before painting them with the glimmering milky polish.

If you want to get Dua’s Grammys nails for yourself, Tinu has some advice on how best to recreate the look at home. After starting with your usual nail prep of filing, shaping and cuticle trimming, apply a clear base coat to provide a strong, long-lasting base that’ll shine through the milky mani.

Tinu recommends using the Mylee Base Coat Gel Polish, £7.49 here (was £9.99), for your base coat, but if you don’t have an LED lamp at home, you can use one like Nailberry’s Strengthen and Breathe Oxygenated Base Coat And Nail Strengthener, £19.99 here, for a base that’s strong but flexible which should cut down on breakages and snapping.

Next, Tinu suggests using two layers of Mylee’s Gel Polish in the shade Ghosting, £8.99 here, which is “the perfect sheer, milky white shade”, before adding a final coat of Mylee’s Gel Polish in Sea Shell, £8.99 here, to complete the jelly look.

However, if you’re not up to a gel mani at home, essie’s Marshmallow, £8.99 here, and Barry M’s Sheer Luck, £4.49 here, both give you a similar sheer, milky white finish that’s ideal for perfecting the trend.

Finish off with a clear top coat and you’ve got your very own milky jelly manicure that Dua would be proud of.
