When Stephen Lord first appeared in Albert Square in 2007 as the troubled Jase Dyer, it was clear his time on EastEnders would be full of drama.
Known for his short hair, stubble and gangster swagger, Jase soon became involved in all kinds of shady matters.
Now, with a beard and long hair, Stephen looks very different. At a recent event, he was seen smartly dressed in a blue velvet suit jacket, black shirt and dark trousers – looking almost unrecognisable. He attended the London Critics Circle Film Awards in February this year with his family.
The 52 year old actor, who left the show in 2008, played Jay Brown’s (Jamie Borthwick) estranged father – even though Phil Mitchell once lied that he wasn’t actually his dad – who was involved in east London’s shady underworld.

Jay Brown moved to Walford with his grandfather Bert Atkinson and soon met his dad. They became close, but Jase’s life was tragically cut short when he was left for dead by a gang leader, known as Terry Bates.
Even when he joined the cast of ITV’s Coronation Street in 2021, his new look surprised fans, leading them to wonder if it was the same actor.
Stephen played Tez Wyatt, Seb Franklin’s dad. One fan wrote on X, previously known as Twitter: “Abi’s ex looks familiar! Anyone recognises him?” Another asked: “Did he used to be in Eastenders or something??”

Coronation Street fans were treated to a blast from the past as they watched Kevin Webster (played by Michael Le Vell) come face to face with a brand new character Tez, played by former EastEnders star Stephen Lord

A third fan tweeted: “How is Abi’s ex (Seb’s dad) the same person from #Eastenders who played Jay’s dad?! Looks so old and different.”
When he joined the rival soap, he told The Sun: “When I took on EastEnders, I always knew there was a beginning, middle and end. It [was] the same with this job. So I had no qualms taking on either project.”
Sally Carman, who played Seb’s mum Abi Franklin, confirmed Stephen’s role in Corrie at the time.
Sally shared that she had already filmed scenes with Stephen, but hinted that Abi doesn’t like his character. She told Digital Spy: “He’s a wrong’un. I like what they did with that. There were more scenes we were meant to do together with me and Stephen Lord, who plays him, but because I got ill, they were re-written.”

She went on to say: “It was good because the audience are left with no doubt that Abi doesn’t like him and has no time for him, but she simply knows he can help her with something that isn’t emotional.
“In the scenes that I have done so far, he’s trying to worm his way in and she’s like, ‘Do one’. I love when Corrie starts bringing different characters in, it’s awesome. It pads out Abi even more, and I love it.”
