Support for Veterans: Calm Source’s Mission to Aid Mental Health Recovery

DANVILLE,⁣ Virginia – Calm Source, a business helmed by disabled veterans, is dedicated to assisting fellow military personnel on their journey ‌toward healing from trauma, addiction, and various mental ‍health issues.

Free Mental Health Services for Veterans

This Danville-based nonprofit has recently launched complimentary mental health and ⁣addiction recovery services ‍specifically tailored for veterans. This initiative follows the receipt of funding from ‌the Virginia Department of Veteran Affairs.

The Personal Impact of⁣ Military Trauma

“Veterans may deal with PTSD or face⁣ stressors stemming from military life. Confronting these issues can be challenging,” said Leon Zimmerman⁣ III, Director of Operations at Calm Source. “Engaging in⁤ dialogue with fellow veterans can provide substantial support in‍ these cases.”

Leon Zimmerman III emphasizes the importance of reducing obstacles ⁢to care in order to prevent others from ⁣experiencing the⁣ despair his father once ⁤faced. His father’s struggles deeply influenced his commitment to this cause.

A Personal Story of Struggle and Healing

“As a veteran myself, I⁢ faced suicidal thoughts years ago,” shared Leon Zimmerman Jr.,‍ the Veteran Liaison at Calm Source. “I⁣ understand ‘veteran talk’—sometimes it can be tough for veterans to express their feelings to those outside their community. When they converse with each other, it creates an empathic understanding that proves‍ incredibly helpful.”

Zimmerman III elaborates on this point: “His experiences provided me insight into what many face; while ⁣I didn’t witness everything he endured‌ directly, I have seen friends struggle after serving in the military. My ⁢father’s battle inspires me every day as ‍we strive to offer veterans the assistance they rightfully need.”

Comprehensive Services Offered at ⁤No Cost

Calm Source provides ⁣extensive services such as ‍licensed⁣ professional counseling ⁣sessions and peer support groups—resources that would otherwise cost between $300 and ⁣$400 daily.

“Many veterans hesitate when seeking help due to fears⁤ about cost,” noted Zimmerman Jr. “When they are made aware⁢ that there⁢ are free resources available, they often feel more encouraged to pursue ⁢these much-needed support options.”

Confronting an Alarming Statistic: Veteran Suicides

Currently, approximately 22 veterans take their own lives each day—a statistic they hope will decrease significantly through increased awareness and access:

“It’s unfathomable that individuals who served our country might choose suicide simply ⁣because⁢ they don’t know how or where to seek help,” lamented Zimmerman Jr. “They need reassurance that their struggles matter; they aren’t invisible.” ⁣

Future Plans for Expansion and Support Services

Looking ahead, Calm Source anticipates⁢ offering‍ complimentary services soon in Roanoke as part of its mission expanding outreach⁤ efforts.
