A fire engulfed the roof of the four-storey BJP’s office in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore on Sunday night as party workers ignited firecrackers to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s oath-taking ceremony.
The incident happened at 9:15 pm.
The fire started as some firecrackers ignited the scraps of plywood, an old sofa, waste materials, and various other pieces of furniture on the roof of the building, according to an official from the BJP media cell.
The fire tenders reached the spot and doused the fire. There were no casualties in the incident.
“While the BJP workers were celebrating under the BJP office with fireworks, one of the rockets or firecrackers ignited a fire on the top floor of the office, the 4th floor,” Indore ACP Tushar Singh was quoted as saying by news agency ANI in its report.
“The fire started because some waste materials, like mattresses and beds, were lying there. The fire was brought under control in time, and there wasn’t much damage,” he added.
