Four people have been displaced from a home in the ByWard Market following a two-alarm fire on Christmas Day.
Ron Phillips, district chief of Ottawa Fire Services, said firefighters were called to the home on St. Patrick Street between Cumberland Street and King Edward Avenue around 12:50 p.m.

St Patrick St is closed between King Edward Ave & Cumberland St, due to a residential fire. Please avoid the area while emergency crews are on scene.

The fire initially had heavy smoke, Phillips said, and around 2 p.m. firefighters were still trying to extinguish the fire, cutting into the roof of the two-storey building with chainsaws in an attempt to isolate “hot spots.” The fire was declared under control at 2:51 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
Phillips said the Salvation Army would be assisting the displaced people. An Ottawa fire investigato was at the scene to find the origin and cause of the fire.
Neighbours at the scene declined to comment.
