MTV’s Video Music Awards are back, and it’s looking set to be an evening to remember. Hosted by rap superstar Nicki Minaj for the second time, the awards ceremony will celebrate a stellar year for pop, rock, hip-hop and R&B, and will be punctuated by live performances by some of the biggest artists in the music industry right now, including Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Olivia Rodrigo, Lil Wayne, Fall Out Boy, Demi Lovato, Tomorrow x Tomorrow, Kelsea Ballerini, and Doja Cat.
A number of performers will be recognized for their career-spanning contributions to the music industry, with hip-hop legend Sean “Diddy” Combs accepting the Global Icon Award, and Shakira receiving the 2023 Vanguard.
And for the first time in the history of the show, the Artist of the Year category features a line-up of entirely female nominees: Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, both of whom are still on the track to world domination with their on-going Renaissance and Eras tours respectively, are up for the prestigious title, as are Nicki Minaj, Shakira, Doja Cat, and Karol G.
