Prime Video’s Invincible, the ultra-violent animated series based on Robert Kirkman’s acclaimed comic book series, is back for Season 2. Featuring the voice talents of Steven Yeun, Sandra Oh, J.K. Simmons, Andrew Rannells, and Gillian Jacobs, Invincible Season 2 catches up with nascent superhero Mark Grayson following the revelation that his father, Omni-Man, was not the protector of Earth, but rather its invader.
This season has also introduced Sterling K. Brown as a multiverse-hopping scientist, and Ben Schwartz as the Shapesmith, a deeply weird wannabe superhero who joins the Guardians of the Globe, and is desperately trying to keep his secret under wraps. But don’t expect any of these plot threads to be resolved too soon, because following the release of Episode 4 on Friday November 24, Invincible went on hiatus.
In an interview with Collider, Robert Kirkman explained some of the reasoning behind this season being cut into two parts, unlike Season 1, which out out all of its episodes on a weekly basis.
“It’s a little bit of the production process just because ramping things up has taken a lot longer than we thought,” he said. “But also this is something that we’ve done with every season of The Walking Dead, and I think narratively, it’s kind of cool to have that pause to digest what you’ve just experienced… And when you see Episode 4 of Season 2, you may need a break. It’s a big episode. It’s definitely a mid-season finale kind of episode.”

Why is Invincible Season 2 split in two parts?
Kirkman added that as Season 2’s story picks up steam, he didn’t want it getting “lost in the shuffle” of the holidays. “With everything going on in that time of year with, you know, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and a lot of family time, I think a lot of shows get lost in the shuffle there,” he said. “So I think it’s good to take a pause and narratively, it’s gonna make things hit a little bit harder. People will know what I’m talking about when the season launches.”
When will Invincible Season 2, Part 2 air?
Part 2 officially airs on March 14. While you wait, though, now is the perfect time to catch up on the special standalone adventure Invincible: Atom Eve that dropped between seasons, and which explores the backstory of Gillian Jacobs’ character and her formidable powers.
