This year’s Oscars are just around the corner, which means the stars will have gone into overdrive to get red carpet ready. They know they’ll be scrutinised from head to toe, so it’s little wonder they have personal glam squads on hand to help them look fabulous.
Alongside the usual stylists, hair and make-up artists, there will be another, more anonymous, behind-the-scenes pro on hand to get them honed and toned: the aesthetic doctor. You name the celebrity and you can reasonably expect they will have had every trick and tweak in the book to prepare for their moment in front of the cameras.
At my Harley Street Skin Clinic, we start our red carpet preparations at least six months ahead of the big night, polishing and preening, tucking and tightening from top to toe. Our efforts will be barely detectable though, and that’s just the way we like it. Ready for a glance inside the extensive world of A-list skin prep? Here are the trendiest treatments the stars will be turning to to get trophy-worthy skin.

BODY CONTOURING
Body Ballancer is the new body contouring treatment that Jennifer Aniston swears by, and many other A-listers will book an appointment ahead of a big event. Some will even buy a machine to have at home. The high-tech device looks like inflatable ski salopettes and uses compressed air to mimic the techniques of manual lymphatic drainage, increasing circulation, reducing water retention, softening cellulite and helping to contour the body.
LED DEVICES
There’s a reason why stars on the red carpet glow like they’ve been plugged in – they usually have. To an LED light machine. Celebs swear by this ultimate all-in-one skin treatment, with Victoria Beckham, Kourtney Kardashian and Madonna crediting LED treatments in their home skincare routines for their glowing complexions. Most use a mask but others invest in a full-body light machine.

ANTI-‘CLINKLE’ INJECTIONS
Gowns with ultra-low necklines and backs are designed to show off a perfectly toned torso, a pert bust and a smooth décolletage, so we prescribe everything from sculpting back procedures that target bra bulge to injectables to smooth “clinkles” (cleavage wrinkles). A full body peel to finish also leaves skin glowing.
FAT GRAFTING
Most of our stars now steer clear of breast implants, with many even opting for breast reduction surgery or having their implants removed due to complications. One star we treated recently decided to try a new fat enrichment technique to boost her breast volume, with fat grafts harvested from her thighs. The result is a perky bust and slimmer thighs – she’s thrilled!
FROZEN FACIALS
As we age, our skin cell cycle exceeds 30 days, so stars can fit in more glow-boosting and sculpting facials to enhance luminosity before a big event. One of the newest skin rejuvenation facials is the Osmo Therm facial, designed to tackle lines, wrinkles and pigmentation. Deep-freeze temperatures and beams of vaporised liquid nitrogen instantly shrink enlarged pores and increase blood circulation, leaving a fresh-faced radiance.

SALMON SPERM BOOSTERS
The newest skin booster uses polynucleotides. It’s made from fish sperm, namely salmon or trout, which mirrors human DNA, and is a natural way to improve skin on a cellular level, leaving complexions looking healthier and softer. The polynucleotides are microneedled or injected under the entire surface, restoring skin tone and elasticity. We use them on all areas, including under the eyes and forehead.
BUCCAL MASSAGE
To tackle the dreaded drooping jawline and restore tone without turning to fillers or surgery, an inner facial is another treatment of choice for many celebrities during awards season. Jennifer Lopez and Meghan Markle are said to be big fans of this natural treatment, which involves having your cheek muscles manipulated.

CLINIC CONFIDENTIAL
When treating the stars, there always seems to be a new area under the microscope. This year it’s the platysmal bands, those long strings of muscles that can protrude in the neck and under the chin. They can spoil the look of a plunging neckline and make the neck appear scrawny. I’ve dubbed it “Ozempic neck” [referring to the weight loss jab] as the muscles stand out even more after rapid weight loss.
One Hollywood celebrity had hers cut to create a softer appearance, which seems to be a rising trend in La La Land. Here, we prefer to use a few jabs of Botox injected into the bands. Five days later, the neck looks tighter and lifted. On the subject of needles, many A-listers attending awards shows this year will be using the “flab jab” Ozempic as a secret for staying in shape without so much as lifting a dumbbell.
