‘I’m Death in Paradise’s on-set makeup artist – here’s my £9 hack to keep skin hydrated and sweat-free’

If you’re a Death in Paradise watcher, you’ve probably wondered how the cast can wear make-up in the heat without it slipping and sliding during filming. In a bid to find out the answers, we reached out to the BBC show’s on-set hair and make-up supervisor, Dionne Thomas, to find out some of her secrets.

Not only has Dionne given us some new product must-haves that we’re immediately ordering, but she’s also provided us with the ultimate hack we’re going to be using whenever we travel to a hot country and need to feel cool and look relatively put-together.

When asked about how she navigates keeping the cast looking sweat-free and feeling cool, Dionne explains: “We film in Guadeloupe, a French Caribbean island, and the weather is very hot. I spray Evian Mineral Water Facial Spray [£8.99 here], as it gives you a great wake up. I then blot it off with cotton wool.”

We were also keen to find out what Dionne uses specifically on DS Naomi Thomas’ (played by actress Shantol Jackson) skin, as she always looks so flawlessly healthy and glowy on our screens.

“I prep the skin with Sukin Rose Water [£7.95 here] for hydration, and allow that to dry naturally. I then use Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream [£52 here] with suncream, before going in with Elizabeth Mott’s Thank Me Later’s Face Primer [£14.99 here].

As for some of the make-up products used on Shantol and the cast, Dionne uses a mix of Fenty Beauty eyeshadows “for the workday scenes” and Pat McGrath products “for Katherine’s bar”. The make-up artist also tells us she sets skin with Laura Mercier’s Setting Powder [£15 here] to knock off some of the shine.
