Diesel unveiled its much-anticipated Vert Collection at an event in Mumbai’s Jio World Drive, recently. In attendance were India’s acclaimed rapper, King, alongside the Managing Director of Fossil Group – India, Johnson Verghese.
The Vert Collection: A Unique Proposition
Central to the Vert Collection is its unique integration with virtual reality (VR) technology. Designed to “bridge the physical and the digital”, these timepieces offer a unique proposition in the world of horology. But more on that later.
The avant-garde design resembles an armor that unfolds on the wrist, and looks rather futuristic. In terms of specifications, the Vert timepieces sport a 44 mm case size and come in three elegant color variants: black, gold, and silver. Each watch features a stainless steel strap bracelet and a three-hand date movement. For those seeking exclusivity, Diesel is also launching a limited edition Vert watch (DZ2183), with only 700 units available globally. This limited edition watch boasts contrasting leather black inlay accents. The collection is priced starting at Rs 27,995.
Diving Deeper into Diesel’s Metamorph Initiative
The Vert Collection is part of Diesel’s expansive Metamorph project, marking the brand’s strides in the Web3 space, and this is where the ‘digital’ aspect comes into play. Vert owners, along with global fans can participate in an immersive gaming experience named Metamorph. Crafted in collaboration with media-tech artists from Artificial Rome, this virtual landscape echoes design elements from the Vert Collection. Players navigate this virtual world, with an avatar, termed the A:VERT:AR, overcoming challenges to “reactivate time” in a realm where time has come to a standstill. The adventure culminates in a virtual concert, featuring artist Lil Dre.
The Vert Collection marks Diesel’s continued commitment to Web3, with each watch buyer receiving a unique digital collectible, internationally. The owners are provided with a code that can be registered for a corresponding NFT. This option, however, is not available in India with NFTs being deemed illegal by the government.
The Symbiosis of Music and Fashion
It’s evident that Diesel is not only redefining horology but also establishing a bridge between the music industry and fashion. The brand’s partnership with King for the Vert Collection is a testament to the same. The world of music and fashion have intertwined in recent times, as seen with Louis Vuitton’s collaboration with Pharrell Williams, and now defunct Yeezy brand’s collaboration with Kanye.
