ITV Celebrity Big Brother’s Marisha Wallace’s family heartbreak with dad who banned Christmas

Loud, proud and bubbly Celebrity Big Brother star Marisha Wallace has revealed some of the difficulties and hard times she has faced in her life to her fans before entering the famous house.

Tough moments in her life, that include banned Christmas times and watching her ex-husband’s schizophrenia diagnosis unfold, have been life-changing for the West End performer.

The 38 year old told the MailOnline that she remembers hiding festive celebrations from her dad, who also suffered from a diagnosed mental health problem.

“My mum tried to put up Christmas trees and a wreath. He’d take them down. She tried to put up lights. He’d take them down,” she said.

“And my mum would put our presents in a bin bag to hide them from him. Then on Christmas Day we’d go into a tiny room and have secret Christmas. Everyone thinks of Christmas as a joyous time. But sometimes it can bring heartache.”

Marisha also dealt with watching her ex-husband’s demise as he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia before attempting to take his own life.

Marisha, who was with her husband for 10 years, admitted that she knew “something was wrong.”

She said: “We got him therapy and medicine but the medicine wasn’t right. And in the States this was expensive.”

She continued that although she wanted to “keep going with it” costs were hard to handle and that in the end they had to go back to Australia where “the healthcare is free.”

Marisha looked after her then-husband and revealed that she learned valuable lessons while taking care of him and that “people that are taking care of the people with mental illness” need support and love, too, citing that it’s never “just one person’s crisis.”

The star also found a cyst on her vocal chord – an incident that nearly lost Marisha her valuable voice. If she had went ahead with surgery to remove it, she might never have sang again. Miraculously, and after “receiving a lot of prayers in church”, Marisha explained that the doctor checked the cyst and “it was gone.”

Fans of Marisha are excited to get to know her better during her time in the Big Brother house, but followers will recognise her from performances in many theatre performances including Aladdin and Dreamgirls.

She entered the house during the launch show on Monday, March 4 as one of the first batch of 12 stars to enter the 2024 series and was welcomed in by hosts AJ Adudu and Will Best.
