KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer said he had ‘manifested’ Kolkata being the first team to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs after their win over MI at the Eden Gardens on May 11, Saturday. KKR completed a rare double over MI to make it 9 wins out of 12 matches and reach the 18-point mark. They went to the top of the table with the win and extended their lead over RR at the top of the table.
Speaking after the 18-run win, Shreyas said that they did have the nerves before the game but was happy to see his side step up and praised the game-changers in the squad. The KKR skipper also hailed the character shown by his side to bounce back after MI had a great start to their chase.

“I think I manifested this before the game (on becoming the 1st side to qualifty for the playoffs). Nerves were there, boys have been raising their hands and there have been many game-changers and kudos to each and every one of them. I feel whichever team plays the best, they got a great chance to win. They were going at great guns in the first 6 overs, and to bounce back from that situation it was nice to see,” said Shreyas.
Why Shreyas gave Varun the 4th over?
With the game being reduced to a 16-over-per-side match, only one bowler could bowl 4. Shreyas decided to pick Varun Chakaravarthy for the job and said it was just a gut feeling for him in the end. Varun picked up figures of 2/17 in the end and was adjudged the Player Of The Match.

“I wasn’t thinking about stats or records, the weather wasn’t great but we won the game and that’s what is more important. It’s all about understanding which bowler is doing well on that particular day, I feel both of them bowled well and my gut went with Varun (on bowling the 4th over) at that point and I backed him,” said Shreyas.
KKR will now head to Ahmedabad to take on GT in their penultimate game of the IPL 2024 season on May 13.
