Leonardo DiCaprio has been called one of the last real Hollywood movie stars, and it’s not hard to see why. DiCaprio is picky about his work, and his star power has led to movies that have solely been funded because his name is attached to the project. And while his last five movies have each made at least $350 million each, the actor has still been able to keep an air of mystery around himself.
DiCaprio’s most recent project, Killers of the Flower Moon, reunites him with director Martin Scorsese, with whom he has collaborated on numerous films, and fellow actor Robert De Niro, with whom he first co-starred in 1993’s This Boy’s Life. And come awards season, DiCaprio will likely be a hot Best Actor contender for his work on this Western crime epic.
On top of all that critical acclaim—which includes seven Academy Award for Best Actor nominations and one hard-earned win for his performance in The Revenant—DiCaprio has also amassed a pretty decent living from his three-decade career. Here’s how much the Titanic star is worth.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s net worth is $300 million.
DiCaprio was paid $30 million to play the role of Ernest Burkhart in Killers of the Flower Moon.
Up until recently, his salary was closer to around $20 million per movie, but he has been known to take a slightly lower paycheck on certain projects: he was paid a cool $10 million for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He also accepted a pay cut to star in 2010’s Inception, but he ended up taking home at least $50 million after the movie premiered, making it one of the largest movie paychecks of all time. DiCaprio got his money from first-dollar gross points, and his deal also included a cut of DVD and TV sales.
The actor has also landed higher paychecks as well, and he was paid $25 million up front for The Wolf of Wall Street. But as Variety reports, budget overruns meant DiCaprio had to defer some of his salary.
Titanic was the movie that turned DiCaprio into the star he is today, but his salary for the 1997 film was only $2.5 million. However, the actor also negotiated for a 1.8% share of the movie’s backend points on gross revenue—and we all know how that story ended. Titanic went on to gross over $2 billion worldwide, and DiCaprio walked away with about $40 million. DiCaprio’s movies have grossed more than $7 billion worldwide, and his other hits include The Revenant, Django Unchained, Catch Me if You Can, and The Great Gatsby.
DiCaprio has also been the face of Tag Heuer watches for many years, and he’s appeared in commercials for Jim Beam in Japan. The actor was named the brand ambassador for Chinese electric car company BYD in 2016, and he was an early investor in the plant-based meat substitute company Beyond Meat.
The actor is also known for his environmentalism, and he founded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998. The nonprofit has raised more than $80 million for a variety of causes, including a tiger conservation project in Nepal, funding for marine conservation initiatives, and a composting and waste system in California.
In 2005, DiCaprio bought a private island in Belize, and in 2016, he announced that he planned to turn part of the island into an eco-friendly private resort called Blackadore Caye. All of the facilities on the island will be powered by renewable energy, and all the food will be locally sourced.
