We can always rely on Marks and Spencer to give us good quality clothing that lasts but in the last few years it has been steadily climbing the ranks as one of the go-to fashion brands on the high street for style too, and one newly launched summer dress is a testament to that.
While more than a decade ago, the British store was known for potential more ‘frumpy’ styles, in 2024, it is quite the opposite, having been winning over style enthusiasts with their trendy designs, flattering cuts, and reasonable price tags.
It’s even got the seal of approval from fashion forward celebrities like Sienna Miller and Vogue Williams whose recent edits have flown off the shelves, not to mention a lot of their design have the quality and style that mirror some high-end designer alternatives. For example, its the £35 bag that’s a dead ringer for a Celine crossbody, or the £79 cotton trench coat that could save you a pretty penny on a Burberry, reports the Mirror.

Most recently, one frock that has been flying off the shelves on M&S’ website is its Linen Rich Striped Midi Waisted Dress, which has stood out to us for being reminiscent of the designs by celeb-favourite Aligne – more specifically the darker denim Rosa Pinstripe Midi Dress – but without the hefty £125 price tag (although it is currently on sale for £74.49). This pinafore-style dress, which is part of the store’s own ‘M&S Collection’, which is a stunning range that offers easy-to-wear, capsule-style wardrobe staples that are truly timeless.

Priced at just £45, it’s designed in a regular fit, that really flatters the waistline with it being an A-line style with an elegant midi length that is gorgeous for summer garden parties. Crafted from a blend of 55% linen and 45% cotton, you know it’s going to keep you cool and comfortable during the warmer summer months.
The dress’ style, too, is timeless and features a blue pinstripe design, complete with a square neckline and gorgeous cross-back detail. Plus, it has a slightly shirred back, making it stretchy and super comfy to wear – very important when it’s warm.
Available in sizes 6-24 and three lengths – short, regular, and long – shoppers have described it as ‘well made’, ‘flattering’ and versatile – plus, some have even cited being able to wear a bra secretively with this dress, which is always a bonus during the season.

One fan of the dress left a glowing five-star review for the summer staple, gushing: “Lovely addition to my summer wardrobe can be dressed up or down cool and easy to wear true to fit ..washes well great value for money comfortable.”
Another chimed in: “Loved this dress, I managed to still wear a bra with this cross back dress and it was a great fit. Additionally it came in a petite option.”
A third added: “Nice dress, good quality material and well made. Dress up for work with a crisp, white blouse and heels for the office or tee shirt and trainers for a casual look.”
However, one customer wasn’t quite as impressed with its fit, writing: “Beautiful dress but far too short in the body for me to keep. I was so disappointed as the quality was lovely. Considered sizing up but it would have left the bottom half too big.”
Despite this, for many others it was a perfect fit with one commenting: “A great light weight dress, I wore it with a white shirt and trainers.
