The coquette aesthetic might have us all in a chokehold right now, but if the ultra-feminine bow-laden look isn’t for you, we have good news. Bloke-core is trending, and it’s all about oversized fits, masculine tailoring and looking like you’ve raided your dad/boyfriend/brother’s wardrobes.
Leading the way with the trend is Maya Jama, who has swapped her Love Island-worthy cut out bodycon dresses for a more dad-inspired look as she attended the Marni Fall/Winter 2024 fashion show in Milan earlier this week. Maya wore a head-to-toe look from the designer, including an oversized blue striped shirt that doesn’t appear to have hit the online sites just yet – although we did spot this similar Marni Striped Straight-Collar Cotton Shirt, £701 here.

But don’t despair just yet fashion fans. You might not be able to shop Maya’s exact shirt just yet, but we’ve found some amazing alternatives that give you a very similar look at just a fraction of the luxury designer’s price tag.
Maya’s shirt had an oversized, boxy silhouette with chunky bright blue and white stripes that looked just like this Emma Relaxed Fit Striped Cotton Shirt, £110 here (was £148), from Reiss. Just like Maya’s version, the oversized shirt has broad stripes and a classic collared neckline with a button up front and cuffs.

If the Reiss version is still a little out of your budget, New Look has a slightly more muted version with its Blue Stripe Poplin Long Sleeve Shirt, £26.99 here. The navy and white stripe shirt has the classic dad-fit with a relaxed, oversized shape and collared neckline, and if you want the Love Island host’s exaggerated fit, consider sizing up by one or two sizes.
For a more mixed-print style pattern, Whistles’ Millie Stripe Oversized Shirt, £63.20 here (was 79), is not only discounted in the brand’s sale, but has an eye-catching combination of thick and thin stripes that give it a more elevated look. It’s oversized fit is also great for mimicking Maya’s style, and it has a breast pocket and longline length that give you that just-stole-it-from-your-dad’s-wardrobe look.

If you’re not sure how to incorporate that striped shirt into your wardrobe, it’s a great staple that can be styled in a whole host of ways thanks to its relaxed fit and timeless design. Wear it with blue jeans and loafers in winter, denim shorts and sandals in the summer, or layer with some knitwear and wide leg trousers for those transitional months.
