Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that he does not appreciate the role of Chief Ministers.
Stalin, who returned from Spain on Wednesday, mentioned that due to his foreign trip, he couldn’t attend the protest organised by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. However, he expressed his support by sending State Minister P Thiaga Rajan and DMK MPs to participate in the protest.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said that all states are compelled to protest against the Union government regarding fund allocation issues.
“The BJP government will have to answer before people for this. Earlier, prime ministers respected the states and its people, but PM Modi is treating the states like municipalities. He doesn’t like the existence of states or Chief Ministers,” said MK Stalin.
MK Stalin claimed that after becoming Prime Minister, Narendra Modi curtailed the rights of the states, taking away their authority over funds, education, and law.
“This is like depriving a person of oxygen”, said MK Stalin, who also warned the state BJP president, claiming that in the future it will happen to them too.
He said that the Tamil Nadu government would strongly oppose the actions of the BJP government.
“After the introduction of GST, states are facing several financial crises. But the Union government, instead of resolving the issue, is creating hurdles for states by stopping them from acquiring loans which are to be used for public welfare schemes. As per the Constitution, it is the right of the state to decide on borrowing loans as only the state government directly works for the welfare of the people. But, the BJP is trying to stop this”, claimed CM MK Stalin.
He urged all parties to protest and asked for the INDIA bloc parties to unite and defeat the BJP. “Let us create an India where federalism and the rights of the States are respected”, said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.
