When it comes to spring style, there’s one piece that reigns supreme in my wardrobe – a midi dress. Not only is it the perfect transitional piece for the ever-changing weather, but it’s also universally flattering, comfortable, and – most importantly – easy to style.
As OK!’s resident style writer I’ve amassed several different types of midi dresses over the years, but there’s something about a puff sleeved one that I go back to time and time again. It might be that it feels feminine without being girly, or that it’s a figure-flattering cut, but there’s something about them that I just can’t get enough of.

As everyone knows, a little black dress is a wardrobe essential, and a black midi dress definitely follows in its footsteps. Between its square neckline, voluminous elbow length sleeves and floaty skirt it’s the ideal combination of elegant and casual, making it perfect for any occasion..
The sleeves also have an embroidered broderie design that gives it a more elevated look, and I can see myself wearing it with trainers and an oversized denim jacket for daytime, or pairing it with some platforms and a sparkly shoulder bag for a more formal evening event. Its lightweight cotton blend material will also make it a great pick for holidays with sandals and a raffia bag or thrown over a bikini after a day at the beach.

If there’s one thing that will always win me over though, it’s comfort. Give me a dress that I can wear for hours on end and not have to worry about constantly readjusting or trying to breathe in and I’m sold.
Thankfully New Look’s black midi also checks off those boxes, too, thanks to its shirred body and loose, floaty skirt that’ll hide any post-meal bloating and will move with my body – perfect for days spent walking around or nights spent dancing. It also has elasticated cuffs on the sleeves that won’t restrict your arms whilst making sure they keep their puffy volume and shape.

If there’s another spring trend I’m going all out with it’s leopard print. It’s a neutral after all, and although it’s having a major moment right now, it’s also a pattern that will never truly go out of style.
