New OTT Releases To Watch In August

It’s been a great year for television and cinema so far, and it’s only getting more exciting this August with a wide variety of shows and movies coming up on your favourite OTT platforms to kickstart this weekend and see you through the rest of the month. Keep your drink ready and munchies close by because you’re in for some serious binge-watching.

The Lincoln Lawyer: Season 2 Part 2

Director: David E. Kelley
Cast: Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole, Angus Sampson, Christopher Gorham
Streaming on: Netflix

Synopsis: We were annoyed when Season 2 of Lincoln Lawyer stopped abruptly after the first six episodes but now the next lot is here, tracking how Mickey Haller handles his client and occasional love interest Lisa Trammel’s case, who is charged with murder. Spoiler: Watch this till the end because there are some mega twists thrown up in the last episode.

Only Murders in the Building Season 3

Created by: Steve Martin and John Hoffman
Cast: Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez
Releasing on:  8 August
Streaming on: Disney Plus Hotstar

Synopsis: Possibly one of most interrogating comedy-crime series there is, there’s no way you’d want to miss what the trio of Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez will be unearthing next on S3 of Only Murders In The Building. Unsurprisingly, another mystery breaks itself open, and this time around, stars like Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd are involved. Need we say more?

Made In Heaven S2

Director: Alankrita Shrivastava, Neeraj Ghaywan, Nitya Mehra, Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar
Cast: Sobhita Dhulipala, Arjun Mathur, Jim Sarbh, Mona Singh, Kalki Koechlin, Shashank Arora
Releasing on: 10 August  2023
Streaming on: Prime Video

Synopsis: Unexpected cameo appearances aside, the second season sees the show’s key characters manoeuvre bigger complexities in the midst of big fat Indian weddings, only to encounter unexpected curveballs being thrown at them. Narrated from the eyes of two wedding planners, the show sheds light on the oft-overlooked societal prejudices and hypocrisies that continue to plague Indian marriages.

Heart of Stone

Created by: Tom Harper
Cast: Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan, Alia Bhatt, Sophie Okonedo, and Matthias Schweighöfer.
Streaming on: Netflix

Synopsis: While it’s almost a no-brainer to guess that everyone has their sights set on Rachel Stone (Gal Gadot) and of course, watching Alia Bhatt (Keya Dhawan) play an antagonist. The plot of HoS chronicles a global peacekeeping agency’s pursuit in fighting a hacker from nabbing its more valued asset, ‘when the governments fail’.

Zombieverse

Directed by: Selvamani Selvaraj
Feature appearances: Muthulakshmi, B. B. Ashok Kumar
Streaming on: Netflix

Synopsis: If you’re a K-drama loyalist, chances are you’d be waiting for this one with bated breath. A survival series based in Seoul, the show’s storyline gives major Squid Games-esque feels—contestants are faced with challenging tasks, thrown in with an unexpected (may we say, good) scare and zombies, of course.

The Hunt for Veerappan

Directed by: Selvamani Selvaraj
Feature appearances: Muthulakshmi, B. B. Ashok Kumar
Streaming on: Netflix

Synopsis: This spine-chilling four-part docu-series chronicles India’s 20-year manhunt for South India’s most dreaded poacher-smuggler—Veerappan. What to expect from the show: Deeper insights into the crimes he committed, his personal life, first-hand account from acquaintances and the special operations that were launched to nab him.
