The man was rescued and emergency responders began treatment for severe burns, the post added.
A spokesperson for the Ottawa Paramedic Service said the man was treated for burns and smoke inhalation. The injuries were not classified as life-threatening, the spokesperson added.
The fire was deemed under control about a half-hour after it was reported, the fire service said.
An investigator was dispatched to try to determine the cause of the blaze.
The fire led to the temporary closure of McArthur Avenue between St. Laurent Boulevard and May Street.
