A German shepherd was pulled from the Rideau River on Wednesday afternoon by first responders after the dog fell through the ice.
A spokesperson for Ottawa Fire Services said the dog fell into the ice about 20 feet from shore near Crichton Street and St. Patrick Street around 11:45 a.m. The dog was trying to climb back onto an ice shelf when emergency crews arrived.

The fire department’s ice rescue team secured the dog shortly before noon.
There were no injuries reported.
