Police charge driver doing 158 km/h in 60 km/h zone at Bronson/Sunnyside

Ottawa police say a driver was arrested Saturday night in the area of Bronson Avenue and Sunnyside Drive traveling almost three times the posted speed limit.

An officer conducting speed enforcement in the busy area spotted a driver travelling at 158 km/h. The posted limit is 60 km/h.

“Once safely pulled over, it was further discovered that the driver was impaired,” police said in a release.

The driver was charged with both stunt-driving and impaired driving.

The vehicle was towed and impounded.

People charged with stunt driving are subject to to an immediate 30-day roadside licence suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment.

If convicted, a driver will lose six demerit points, face a fine of $2,000 to $10,000 dollars, and receive potential jail time, as well as possible licence suspension for a minimum of one year.
