Newest in its library is Jake Gyllenhaal’s newest venture. After Road House, the actor now steps into a much different role. Based on the 1987 novel by Scott Turow (and already adapted into a 1990 film starring Harrison Ford), Presumed Innocent features Gyllenhaal alongside Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, and Peter Sarsgaard.
The show follows a prosecutor who becomes the prime suspect in the murder of one of his colleagues. It’s part murder mystery and part legal thriller, as Gyllenhaal’s character, Rusty, has to prove his innocence while trying to unravel the truth at the same time. If you’re into whodunits like True Detective, you’ll likely enjoy watching the layers unfold in Presumed Innocent’s story. Plus, it’s a limited series, so you won’t have to lock in for longer than one short, but engrossing season. You can even wait until it’s all out and binge in a weekend.
