Quebec’s police watchdog investigates after person found seriously injured in Campbell’s Bay jail

Quebec’s police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes, has opened an investigation after a person was found to be seriously injured following an arrest by the Sûreté du Québec in Campbell’s Bay on Friday morning.

In a release, the BEI said a person was arrested at their home at about 8:40 a.m.

“At around 11:15 a.m., the person was found unconscious on the floor of the interrogation room,” the release stated.

The person was given first aid and then taken to hospital, where their condition was said to be serious.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., the BEI launched its investigation.

Five BEI investigators were tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The BEI also engaged Montreal police to conduct a parallel criminal investigation into the incident.

Campbell’s Bay is approximately 100 kilometres northwest of Ottawa.
