Rahul fastest to 4000 IPL runs as opener, joins Virat Kohli in elite club

KL Rahul became only the fifth batter in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to score 4000 runs as an opener. The right-handed batter achieved the feat in LSG’s match against RR on Saturday, April 27 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli are the other batters to have accomplished the landmark in the IPL.

Rahul was 35 runs short of the landmark, and he got there with the utmost ease. Earlier in the tournament, Rahul became the first batter to score 1000 runs for LSG in the IPL. He got to the landmark in the match against Shubman Gill’s GT earlier in April. Moreover, he became the fastest to 4000 IPL runs as an opener.

KL Rahul plays another decent knock

Rahul showed a lot of composure in the game against the Royals. LSG did not get off to the best of starts after they lost the early wickets of Quinton de Kock and Marcus Stoinis. De Kock started his knock with a couple of fours off Trent Boult, but then the RR pacer castled him.

Stoinis scored a stupendous 124 not out against CSK at the Chepauk, but he failed to open his account against RR. Sandeep Sharma, who got a 5-wicket haul against MI, rattled his woodwork with a ball that moved sharply back into him.

At the other hand, Rahul did not throw in the towel. He kept picking up the gaps and brought up his half-century off 31 balls. He was also involved in a partnership of 115 runs for the third wicket with Deepak Hooda off 61 balls. Rahul scored 76 runs off 48 balls before Avesh Khan dismissed him.
