Ottawa police will provide an update this afternoon on the overnight killing of six people, including four children, at a Barrhaven home on Berrigan Drive. Live video of the police update will be available lower down in this post when police begin speaking at 1:30 p.m.

The father and husband of the family was found injured at the scene. He remained in hospital in serious but stable condition as of mid-afternoon Thursday.

What we know so far

Ottawa Police Services chief Eric Stubbs confirmed a family of newcomers to Ottawa, originally from Sri Lanka, was living in the home.The victims wereStubbs said that investigators don’t believe the homicide is an incident of intimate partner violence.Stubbs said an edged weapon was used in what he described as a “mass killing.”Nineteen-year-old Febrio De-Zoysa has been charged with six counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. He is from Sri Lanka and is believed to be in Canada as a student, Stubbs said, adding that he is the only suspect.
