Resident slightly injured, dog rescued at Overbrook townhouse fire

One person was injured when he jumped from a second-floor window during an early-morning fire at a townhouse in the Overbrook district.

Firefighters also rescued a small dog.

Firefighters were called at about 6:46 a.m. to the fire in an attached townhouse in the 400 block of King George Street.

Teams arrived four minutes later and confirmed smoke coming from the structure.

An occupant jumped from a second-floor window to escape the fire, while a second occupant exited on their own.

Prior to paramedics’ arrival, firefighters assessed and treated the patient who had jumped. Paramedics took over care of the person.

While searching for other occupants, firefighters located a small dog, named Girley, in a second-floor bedroom.

Ottawa Fire Services photographer Jean Lalonde noted “Girley was not a fan of being picked up by a firefighter in full bunker gear, but was safely brought outside and reunited with its owner.”

The fire was declared under control at 06:45 a.m. before flames could spread past the second-floor hallway.

The attached townhome was unaffected by the fire.

A fire investigator was dispatched to the scene.
