We don’t know about you, but there’s something about a new sunnier season that has got us itching to switch up our look. With the dreary winter days behind us (hopefully) the return of spring is the perfect time to give your hair a lighter, brighter makeover – just take it from Sabrina Carpenter.
The singer is currently touring with Taylor Swift as part of her Eras Tour, putting her – and her golden tresses – firmly in the spotlight. Sabrina’s golden-toned buttercup blonde hair is the perfect hue for spring, and can be done in a whole host of intensities, making it an almost universally flattering shade.

Each year as the weather warms up, we see a return of warmer blonde colours replacing the darker, cooler shades from winter, and although last year was all about the return of platinum blonde, this year it seems we’re ready for something softer and warmer. Michelle Billington, Hair Expert at Jerome Russell Bblonde, said: “Buttercup Blonde is a beautifully sunkissed shade, characterised by its warm, golden tones reminiscent of the colour of buttercups. It has a soft, sunny appearance and can vary in intensity, ranging from a light, pale blonde to a deeper, honey-toned colour.
“Buttercup blonde adds a lot of warmth to the face, making it a universally flattering option, particularly for those with warm and neutral undertones.” Other celebs who’ve been sporting a buttercup shade of blond include Sofia Richie and Beyonce, firmly securing its spot as the must-have hair colour of the season.

If you want to get the look yourself, you’re in luck, because it’s one of the easier blonde shades to accomplish. Unlike ash tones which are notoriously tricky to reach when you have a darker base, the warmer buttercup colour is much easier to achieve, and for those who are already blonde, all it takes is a subtle shift in tone.
To get the look at home, Michelle suggests using the Jerome Russell Bblonde Ultra Blonding Kit, £7.99 here, to lift the colour of your hair. Depending on how dark a shade you’re starting with, it might take a few lightning sessions to get your hair lifted enough to the right blonde.
As with any chemical processing, it’s so important to look after your hair before, during and after to minimise breakage and damage. The Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector, £28 here, is a great treatment to use after bleaching to help repair any broken bonds and leave your hair healthier and stronger.

Once your hair is finally blonde enough, the right toner is the secret to nailing Sabrina’s buttercup colour, and which one you choose all depends on how susceptible your hair is to brassiness. Those of you who struggle to ditch the yellow undertones will want to opt for a white gold toner, like this Jerome Russell Bblonde Toner White Gold, £4.99 here, whilst those of you blessed with yellow-free locks will be better off using a golden or caramel toner, like the Shrine Drop It Caramel Blonde Toner, £9.99 here, which can be tailored to suit your hair.
It’s no secret that blonde locks require some serious upkeep. To maintain your new buttercup blonde colour, you’ll also need to invest in some good colour-safe shampoo and conditioner, as well as keeping up with a regular toning and treatment schedule to avoid it looking brassy and keep it firmly in the buttercup palette.
