I’ve always been so envious of women who can effortlessly create bouncy curls using hair straighteners. I struggle to create them using a dedicated tong, so something flat in shape and tricky to manoeuvre was never going to be in my curly hair toolkit. Well, that is until I tested out ghd’s latest and greatest innovation.
Back in February, the brand welcomed the Chronos hair styler into its range of heated hair tools, was £289 but now £269 in the summer sale, and though it resembles previous ghd straighteners, it most definitely is a cut above all others.
This clever gadget is designed to be up to three times more responsive than their other tools and has gloss-coated floating ceramic plates that help prevent breakage and boost your hair’s shine.
It also has built-in HD motion-responsive tech, which means it adapts to your styling movements quickly, giving a one-stroke definition that lasts up to 24 hours – meaning you won’t need to spend ages going over and over a single section. The tool also monitors the heat being placed onto your tresses, making sure the hair stays at the optimum 185°C, meaning less damage and breakage over time.

The straighteners may be new to the scene, but they’re already loved by celebs, influencers and beauty fans alike. In a behind-the-scenes look at her BAFTAs prep over on Instagram, Emily Atack showed off her goodie bag of beauty essentials, including the GHD straighteners, whilst Michelle Keegan also gave a glimpse at her get-ready routine at the Savoy Hotel on Instagram, which included a similar gift bag from GHD that included the straighteners ready to be used to create her glossy waves.
I can completely see why the celebs are loving the new launch. I’ve been using the Chronos now for three months and I can, hand on heart, say I use no other heated tools – this has blown them out of the water. The way my hair glides through the plates is something I haven’t experienced with other straighteners. Since I don’t have thick or glossy hair, my dry and fluffy lengths often knot around regular plates, meaning when I was trying to create curls with the twist and slide technique, I’d get halfway down a section before it tangled and I’d have to restart.

Mostly, I use the Chronos to cheat a blow-dry look by curling the ends of my hair under slightly. I have extremely long hair thanks to tape-in extensions, and I can do a full head of styling in 10 minutes with this gadget.
Though I definitely think you get more than enough back from the styler to warrant the price tag, I appreciate not everyone has £269 to spend. If you’re looking to cheat a blow dry, like I do, for a bit less, I also loved Amika’s Blow Out Babe Thermal Brush, £95 here, before I found Chronos.
