The theme for Canada Army Run 2023, “Showcasing the Army of Today,” will offer audiences a unique opportunity to understand the current reality of the Canadian military, explore the various military opportunities available, and appreciate the significant contributions made by the Canadian Army in order to ensure Canada’s safety.

“Most importantly, Canada Army Run is an opportunity to raise funds for Support Our Troops and Soldier On, the official charitable causes of the CAF, which provide essential support to ill and injured CAF members, veterans, and their families,” the organization said in a news release.

Terry Fox Run

Across town, the Terry Fox Run for cancer research heads to a new venue, but with the same goals.

Earlier this year, the event received a boost from actor Ryan Reynolds, who helped design a T-shirt for sale nationally. By mid-April, sales of the shirt had raised more than $1 million, organizers said.

The runs, held across Canada, are a legacy to Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope in 1980. Fox, who had been diagnosed with bone cancer, ran with the aim of informing Canadians about the importance of finding a cure for cancer.

In Ottawa, about 1,750 people have so far donated for the event, with $116,017 pledged.

The 2023 Ottawa run moves to a new venue on Sunday, in Hog’s Back Park.

“The route will be very similar to previous years and new maps will be provided on the day of the event,” organizers said in a news release.

Registration starts at 7:30 a.m., with a mass start at 9 a.m.

The last runners set off at about 11 a.m. and the running events end at noon.

Organizers note there would be little free parking at Hog’s Back Park, but there would be parking just a short walk from the start location.

“We encourage use of public transportation,” organizers said.
