Best Overall
Tonal Home Gym
The Home Gym is “far and away the best one,” says Men’s Health Fitness Director Ebenezer Samuel, C.S.C.S. “It has three different resistance profiles and can set you up to eccentric overload, which is an amazing way to build muscle.”
Tonal’s unique brand of magnetic resistance doesn’t feel completely like a gym cable machine. But it’s close, and the wall-mounted device adds several other features, simulating chain resistance or adding eccentric resistance to classic exercises. Add in easy music integration with best-in-class speakers, and you have your own dream home gym.
This popular workout mirror takes the guesswork out of the equation when it comes to helping you achieve your goals. Start with a personal fitness assessment so Tonal can learn your strength and record your starting weight. Then, the machine uses up to 200 pounds of adaptive weight to custom-set to your goals. If it senses that the weight isn’t enough because you’re performing reps too quickly, it will automatically adjust accordingly. The technology keeps track of each workout you complete, as well as your performance, and then creates a customized training plan to help you set strength goals and reach them. Adjust the arms to perform over 245 different upper, lower, and full body exercises.
One more thing we love about this fitness workout mirror is that it’s extremely durable and well-made. Samuel has owned his for years and never had a problem with it.
Our only real gripe is the annoying setup process. “Other mirrors can stand alone or be pushed against a wall, but this one has to be mounted to the wall,” says Samuel. “If you live in an apartment or don’t have a beam to the wall, you might need to spend a few hundred dollars to get a bracket for it.”

Best Midrange Mirror
Forme Studio
“This workout mirror is all about aesthetic, meant to look beautiful in your living room (or any room really), yet it delivers the cable resistance of a Tonal and one of the best triceps pressdown ropes you’ve ever used,” Samuel wrote in his 2023 Home Gym Awards.
From guided workouts to customizable weekly plans, the Studio mirror provides users with a highly personal experience. Classes include options for both body—like, core, strength, yoga, dance, boxing, and more—as well as the mind—like meditation, sound bath, and breath work—taught by over 30 instructors.
The Studio is very similar to Tonal’s Home Gym but, in Samuel’s words, “less diverse because there’s only one resistance profile. However, it is very smooth, though you won’t be able to load it up a whole ton.”
This workout mirror comes with a mat and a heart rate strap, so you can monitor your effort and train by HR zone. You can also buy add-on equipment for the mirror, like a barre for barre workouts or adjustable arms for either side of the mirror for strength workouts.
The midrange price tag makes this a great deal for anyone looking to dip their toes in the pool of the latest workout mirrors. With a sleek design, a well-rounded feature set, highly personal interactivity, and a solid selection of on-demand trainer-led classes, we think it’s a great buy, especially for novice fitness enthusiasts.

Best for Beginners
Tempo Studio Lite Trainer
When you purchase this workout mirror and the accompanying membership, you’ll be able to track stats like reps, pace, heart rate, PRs (personal records) and more as you’re working out. You can get personalized coaching, too, or push yourself to squat deeper using the “range of motion meter.”
Along with the touchscreen display and built-in speakers, the Studio Lite Trainer package includes dumbbells, bumper plates for the dumbbells, and a workout mat. Upgrading to the Studio Trainer package adds a barbell, barbell collars, a weight bench, a heart rate monitor, and a recovery roller. The flagship Studio Pro Traine package includes all listed as well as a folding squat rack, heavier weight plates, as well as a kettlebell system. Your weights are recorded by 3D sensors and tracked on screen. To be honest, though, we wouldn’t put too much stock in this mirror’s motion trackers. Samuel confirms they’re not very accurate.
“The coaches are well-credentialed in a variety of areas, such as fat loss, hypertrophy, and injury prevention,” Samuel wrote in a previous review of Tempo. “There are one-off workouts as well as monthlong programs, and the AI automatically dials the weight up or down based on your strength output, volume, speed, and overall intensity.” We do, however, wish the workout library was broader with a wider ecosystem of trainers.
Bottom line: This is a great option for beginners. We like that it has durable weights inside if you want to lift. They’re not super heavy, though, and not what we would ordinarily recommend you buy for your home gym
Ultimately, we think you’ll get between six months to a year of solid training with this. After that, you’ll probably start thinking about graduating to a more full-featured mirror.

How Do Workout Mirrors Work?
True to their name, workout mirrors are specially designed to allow you to watch a fitness instructor or certified trainer while simultaneously watching yourself as you workout. This unique setup makes it easy to check your form and emulate your onscreen coach. Depending on the exact mirror model, you’ll also have access to essential metrics—time elapsed, calories burned, heart rate, etc.—throughout your workouts.
Are Workout Mirrors Worth It?
The short answer is: It depends. Workout mirrors are a clever, high-tech niche product designed for a specific type of fitness enthusiast. They’re great for anyone who is unable (or unwilling) to go to the gym or who might be uncomfortable sharing their workout time with others in a class setting. They create a more personal experience that feels like “your” trainer is working just with you in a virtual one-on-one setting. The best fitness workout mirrors also provide instant access to key metrics while you workout.
How Much Space Do You Need to Workout with a Workout Mirror?
It ultimately depends on the model you purchase. Most only need a little more floor space than a typical workout mat. The only exceptions are higher-end models that use AI or special software to keep track of your workout movements. These often require a little more floor space—typically a few extra feet on all sides—than other less sophisticated models.

How Do You Clean a Workout Mirror?
Despite their high-tech designs, most workout mirrors are constructed using ordinary tempered glass. This not only makes them ultra-durable, but as easy to clean as any ordinary household mirror. Just grab your favorite non-streaking glass cleaner, spray a bit directly onto a clean washcloth, and wipe down your workout mirror like usual.
