The latest epic—and inevitable awards show behemoth—by renowned director Martin Scorsese is the Western mystery Killers of the Flower Moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone.
Based on the true crime book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann, it follows the investigation into deaths of several Native Americans in Oklahoma who had become wealthy following the discovery of oil beneath tribal land at the turn of the 20th century.
But what might sound like a straightforward whodunnit is complicated by the racism of the time and setting: as one lawman remarks in the movie, “You got a better chance of convicting a guy for kicking a dog than killing an Indian.” What follows is a compelling exploration of greed, corruption, power, and murder. In other words: quintessential Scorsese.
Killers of the Flower Moon is De Niro’s tenth collaboration with Scorsese, following Taxi Driver, Cape Fear, Mean Streets, Casino, The King of Comedy, The Irishman, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, and New York, New York. DiCaprio, meanwhile, is teaming up with Scorsese for a seventh feature after The Wolf of Wall Street, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Aviator and Gangs of New York. (This movie also reunites DiCaprio and De Niro on the big screen for the first time since This Boy’s Life in 1993, although they appeared together in Scorsese’s short film The Audition in 2015.)
The sprawling ensemble cast also includes Jesse Plemons, John Lithgow, and Brendan Fraser fresh off his own Oscar win for The Whale.

As of today, the movie is now on wide release in the United States, and can be viewed in theaters, including on IMAX screens.

Just make sure to hit up the bathroom before entering the theater. Killers of the Flower Moon is a long movie, even by Scorsese’s standards, running 3 hours and 26 minutes—just shy of The Irishman’s 3 hours 29. But the critics seem to almost universally agree that this crime epic is worth staying in your seat for.
The Hollywood Reporter’s David Rooney writes that the film’s run time “is fully justified in an escalating tragedy that never loosens its grip — a sordid illustration of historical erasure with echoes in today’s bitterly divisive political gamesmanship.”
Is the movie streaming?
Right now, the only way to watch Killers of the Flower Moon is in theaters. However, the movie will come to streaming eventually, and Apple TV+ will be the first platform to show it, as it was released under the company’s Apple Original Films distributor in partnership with Paramount. A specific streaming date has yet to be announced.
