This layering method using cheap products is the ultimate hack to beat dry lips this winter

This layering method using cheap products is the ultimate hack to beat dry lips this winter

When it comes to winter, your skincare becomes all about keeping your skin as hydrated as possible, with the cold temperatures, low air humidity and harsh winds all stripping your skin of its usual moisture.

However, one thing that often gets overlooked is your lips, and we all know there’s nothing more irritating and painful than a dry, chapped pout. Even if you have been trying to keep on top of your lip care and have spent a fortune on scrubs, balms and oils to try and tackle drying and cracking, it probably feels like you’re in a never ending loop of applying them, only for it to immediately soak in and disappear or rub off the second you eat or drink anything.

However, one TikToker has got the perfect solution and it couldn’t be easier (or more affordable). The straightforward method is guaranteed to keep your lips smooth and hydrated as we ride out the last couple of months of winter, and it’ll only cost you £2.50.

In the now-viral video, TikToker Cosy With Angie shares a skincare secret that’s so simple, we can’t believe we didn’t think of it before. In the video, Angie is shown patting some water onto her lips, before applying a layer of Vaseline Lip Therapy, £2.45 here, onto her pout, with a caption over the top that says: “Friendly reminder that Vaseline is an occlusive so if you pat some water onto your lips and then apply your lip balm on top before you go to sleep you’ll quite literally never have dry lips this winter.”

Occlusive skincare products are simply anything that creates a physical barrier on top of the skin which helps trap in the moisture and keep your skin feeling hydrated, and they usually come from ingredients like petrolatum, silicones, waxes like beeswax and calendula, and most oils and butters, which is why Vaseline is perfect for the hack thanks to its petroleum-based formula.

It seems the hack was exactly what plenty of her followers were looking for, as they commented: “Sis how you KNOW this tip is just what I needed,” whilst another wrote: “ Vaseline lip therapy is so good tho.”

Others also shared their similar layering routines that they swear by, with one saying: “I have a spray bottle with water in it. I mist my face between the steps of my skincare, gotta lock that moisture in.”

Another said: “Damp lips, Hyaluronic acid, Vaseline” whilst a third added: “And it doesn’t clog pores.”

Lanolips is also perfect for using in the hack

Angie also added to her video caption: “P.S. you don’t have to use vaseline. I know people are being really careful of what they’re purchasing right now, so you can just use the occlusive of your choice. I’ve just had this lip balm for quite a while so it’s what I have on hand already.”

Other great options to try out the hack for yourself include Lanolips The Original 101 Ointment, £10.99 here, which has a petroleum base and is specifically designed to help re-hydrated extremely dry, chapped and sore skin on your lips, hands and face.

Another top pick would be the Weleda Skin Food Lip Butter, £6.20 here (was £7.75), which contains calendula wax to help seal in moisture and protect and repair sore, dry and cracked lips. So, dab on that water and slather on the Vaseline, because we’re very ready to wave goodbye to chapped lips this winter.
