Three people are facing numerous charges, including aggravated assault, after what police are calling a “major disturbance” occurred in Arnprior in the early hours of Saturday.

Sgt. Brianna Roberge, media-relations officer with the Renfrew detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, said officers were called to a home on River Road in Arnprior around 1:50 a.m. Two people were taken to hospital with “unknown injuries” after the “major assault,” police said.

Two 18-year-olds (one male, the other female) and a 19-year-old man from Arnprior and Renfrew all face two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of aggravated assault and other charges for trespassing at night and possessing a weapon for dangerous purposes.

The three have been held for bail hearings, police said.

On Saturday afternoon, police were at the home on River Road and another home in Renfrew that was connected to the Arnprior incident, Roberge said.

Roberge did not explain the connection.

The Arnprior residence is a two-storey, brick building in a residential area on the outskirts of the community.

Renfrew OPP, the Renfrew detachment’s crime unit and the OPP’s East Region forensic identification service were all involved in the investigation.

Police stressed on social media there was “no threat to public safety.”

As the investigation continued, Roberge said, residents of both Arnprior and nearby Renfrew could expect to see a larger than normal police presence in their communities.
