Because of the crash at the Italian grocery, George Street was closed both east- and west-bound between Sussex Drive and ByWard Market Square, the Ottawa Police Service posted online.
A mid-evening update from police said the vehicle had struck a natural gas line, resulting in a gas leak. A safety perimeter was established while the leak was repaired.
The area was again safe and all roads had been re-opened, police added.
