Former prime minister Brian Mulroney’s life and career were celebrated at a state funeral Saturday morning at stately Notre-Dame Basilica in Old Montreal.
Mulroney, who was Canada’s 18th prime minister from 1984 to 1993, died in a Florida hospital on Feb. 29 after a fall at his home in Palm Beach. He was 84.

Eulogies were offered by the former prime minister’s daughter and Ontario cabinet minister Caroline Mulroney, as well as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, former U.S. secretary of state James Baker via video, Quebec businessman Pierre Karl Péladeau, hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, and Jean Charest, former premier of Quebec.
A 19-gun salute was fired at the end of the ceremony from the Clock Tower Pier in the Old Port of Montréal.
