Woman used chicken blood to accuse man of sexual harassment, extort Rs 3 crore

By Divyesh Singh: A woman used chicken blood to falsely accuse a 64-year-old businessman of sexually assaulting her and extorted Rs 3.26 crore from him, said the Mumbai Police in a chargesheet filed in connection with a case from 2021. The chargesheet was filed last week against the woman, Monica Bhagwan alias Dev Chaudhary, and her accomplices Anil Choudhary alias Akash, Lubna Wazir alias Sapna, a fashion designer, and a jeweller, Manish Sodi.

WHAT IS THE CASE?

In 2021, a businessman from Maharashtra’s Kolhapur filed a complaint at the Sahar Police Station saying Monica and her associates trapped him and extorted Rs 3.26 crore. The accused had recorded a video of him in 2019 which they used to threaten him saying they would file a sexual assault case against him. Using the video as leverage, they extorted money from him over a period of two years.

According to his statement, the 64-year-old businessman met Anil Chaudhary in Goa in 2016 where they exchanged numbers with each other. They continued to stay in touch, and in 2018, Anil introduced him to Lubna Vazir, a fashion designer.

In March 2019, the businessman stayed at a five-star hotel near Mumbai International Airport when Chaudhary asked him if Sapna and Monica could join them for dinner, to which he agreed. Sapna and Monica reached the hotel and met the complainant in his room.

Soon afterwards, Sapna left the room, claiming she had to hand over some documents to someone in the hotel’s lobby. At the same time, Monica went inside the hotel room’s washroom.

Shortly after, someone rang the room’s doorbell, and when the businessman opened the door, Sapna started shouting and recording a video on her phone. She accused the victim of sexually assaulting Monica, who had undressed and covered herself with a bedsheet. Monica’s clothes and the bedsheet she used to cover herself also had blood stains which they said were a result of the alleged sexual assault.

Frightened, the businessman called Anil and explained the situation. Anil arrived later, and the three demanded Rs 10 crore from him saying if he didn’t give them the amount, they would file a sexual assault case against him and release the video on social media.

Eventually, they settled for Rs 75 lakh but since then, they extorted Rs 3.26 crores from the victim in a span of two years. In October that year, the accused also abducted the victim and took away Rs 27,000 and a gold chain worth Rs 1 lakh. Fed up with the continuous extortion and blackmail, the victim filed a police complaint on November 17, 2021 at Sahar police station.

After receiving the complaint, the police set a trap and arrested Sapna and Anil while they were accepting the extortion money. However, Monica managed to escape and was later arrested in June 2022.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the accused gang was involved in blackmail and extortion of several other victims. They had also filed false cases against some of their victims. The investigation team also recovered Rs 49.35 lakh from the accused during the search.

It was found that they had used chicken blood to frame the complainant in this case.
