Zara McDermott recently took to the red carpet at the prestigious Cannes film festival, taking place in the South of France until today (Saturday, May 25). The 27-year-old documentary maker and former Lover Islander showcased her jaw-dropping look, stepping out in a sheer navy blue Sylwia Romani gown before shocking fans with her brand new brunette look.
While the reality star shared with her followers on social media after the festival that her brunette locks were not there to stay, having achieved the look with L’Oreal Paris’ £6 Magic Retouch spray, which gave her a semi-permanent dark haired look for the night, she also revealed her full glowy make-up routine.
What’s even better is that, with her being a L’Oreal ambassador, it’s all relatively affordable, meaning you can recreate her Cannes look at home.
Both Zara and her make-up artist Joe Pickering-Taylor shared the product breakdown on their social media, with her MUA sharing a video of the process with a caption that read: “The dream getting @zara_mcdermott for @lorealparis in Cannes.”

Starting with the eyes and, what make-up buffs speculate to be – Zara nor her MUA did not confirm – VIEVE’s eye wand in a gorgeous camel brown (available from Cult Beauty for £23), Zara’s make-up artist moved on to framing her eyes with L’Oréal Paris’ £5.99 Superliner Le Khol, using both brown and black shades.
Moving onto the face, Joe then used the lightweight L’Oreal Paris Infallible foundation in the shade 260, £13.99, as well as the viral Glotion, £11.99, in shade medium before using the £9.99 Infallible concealer in shade Vanilla.
Zara was then seen filling in her own eyebrows with L’Oréal Paris’ £10.99 Unbelievabrow 30h Longwear before her face was bronzed and blushed to perfection with the Back to Bronze powder (£9.99 at Boots) and Melon Dollar Baby blush, which is £8.99 at Sephora.
The look was finished off with the lash-lifting and volumising L’Oreal Panorama mascara in black, £12.99, which is beloved by celebrities and MUAs alike from Rochelle Humes to Kendall Jenner, as well as a lick of lipstick in shade Worth It (601), £11.99 from Boots. And, it’s safe to say she looked a million dollars.
Understandably, once she shared her look on Instagram, fans and famous friends of the Love Islander – whose boyfriend is Made in Chelsea star and most recent King of the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! jungle Sam Thompson – raced to her comments to share their admiration.
Gogglebox and I’m A Celeb’s Scarlett Moffatt said: “Hair is stunning. Outfit is stunning. Face- stunning!!” while Sam’s sister Louise Thompson said: “Such a babe”.
Another wrote: “U look absolutely INSANE”.
While her make-up look was commented on – with a fourth fan stating: “So glam…sooo flawless…sooooooo obsessed” – most fans couldn’t quite get over her hair transformation with many petitioning for it to remain a permanent fixture. One said: “Even more stunning with dark hair!!” while another added: “OMG DARK HAIR. NEVER EVER go blonde again cause this is your colour wow!”
We couldn’t agree more. What’s more impressive is that it only costs £5.99 from Boots to achieve this transformational look.
As an ambassador for the brand, Zara has been open about how much she loves L’Oreal’s products and regularly shares her skincare routine, in which her go-to products are L’Oreal Paris’ Revitalift Filler serum – which is currently on sale for £14.99 on Amazon, the £15.99 (at Boots) L’Oréal Paris 2.5% Hyaluronic Acid and Caffeine Eye Serum as well as the brand’s L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Filler + Hyaluronic Acid Anti Ageing Anti-Wrinkle SPF 50 Replumping Day Cream which is currently priced at £12.49 down from £24.99 at Boots.
If it’s good enough for Zara at the Cannes film festival, it’s good enough for us.
