There’s some significant Windsor content in the Ford Super Duty truck series, which was named named the 2024 winner in the truck category of the North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicles of the Year announced this week.
The 7.3-litre V8 and the 6.8-litre V8 engines widely used in the trucks are both produced at Windsor’s Annex Engine Plant, which added a third shift in February to keep up with demand for the power plants. The third engine option, the 6.7-litre V8 diesel is built in Mexico.

The Ford Super Duty series, which ranges from the F-250 to the F-600, were the only purely internal-combustion engine powered vehicles to win a category in the 30th year of the competition. Ford edged out Chevrolet’s Colorado and Silverado EV to extend its winning streak in the truck division to four consecutive years.
The win is Fords’ 16th NACTOY award keeping it as the competition’s most prolific winner.
“Our winners reflect the fact that a modern vehicle must be a combination of style, utility and technology,” said NACTOY President Jeff Gilbert. “I commend our fifty jurors for coming up with some excellent choices.”
The winners in the car division were Toyota Prius and Prius Prime while Kia’s EV9 was named utility vehicle of the year.
The NACTOY awards are the longest-running new-vehicle awards not associated with a publication. Fifty automotive journalists from all media platforms form the judges’ panel.
