CORK’S silver jubilee All-Ireland-winning captain Mark Landers will deliver the Liam MacCarthy Cup to pitchside before Sunday’s All-Ireland SHC final.
The Irish Examiner hurling podcast contributor Landers, who skippered the Rebels to their 1999 victory over Kilkenny, will place the cherished piece of silverware on a mount in front of the Hogan Stand tunnel from which the Cork and Clare teams will emerge before 3pm (3.30pm throw-in).
Details of the pre-game Clár an Lae were released by the GAA Thursday. Supporters at Croke Park will be able to take in a specially commissioned show, which will be streamed globally via GAA.ie and on the @OfficialGAA social media channels.
The Warm Up will be hosted in the stadium from 2pm and will provide entertainment and analysis for those who those in GAA HQ and logging in online.
Hosted by Dave McIntyre and involving Clare’s Podge Collins, Cork’s Eoin Cadogan and former Tipperary star John ‘Bubbles’ O’Dwyer, the new offering will preview the game and look back on past meetings of Cork and Clare.
Aisling O’Reilly will canvas fans’ opinions around the stadium campus. The show will also celebrate the Jimmy Barry-Murphy-managed silver jubilee All-Ireland winning group.
There will be musical entertainment on the Cusack Stand concourse with Colm Lynch and Fiach Moriarty who will perform both before the game, and at half-time above the GAA Museum entrance.
There will also be a canon firing free jerseys into the crowd as well as other competitions for the lucky holders of match tickets in the 82,000 strong crowd. Pyrotechnics, drummers and pitch pageantry will complete the big match build-up.
The enhanced pre-game activity comes on the back of a committee being established to improve the All-Ireland final match-day experience in light of there being no curtain-raiser since 2019.
