JOHANNESBURG – eNCA has reliably been informed that the ANC is likely to announce that Jacob Zuma will be expelled this week.
The ANC’s National Executive Committee charged Zuma with misconduct after he said he would vote for the MK Party in the May elections.
The party’s disciplinary committee was to hear the matter before the elections but this was postponed for fears of violence. The hearing was held online a few days ago.
Zuma did not attend but a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf by the disciplinary committee.
It is understood Fikile Mbalula, the secretary-general of the ANC, presented the party’s case.
It is further believed that the disciplinary committee has found Zuma guilty and that he will be expelled from the ANC in the coming days.
He can appeal within 21 days.
Zuma joined the ANC in 1958 and was later imprisoned on Robben Island for ten years.
He rose within the movement to become commander of the party’s military wing – Umkhonto We Sizwe.
After democracy, he played an important role in ensuring peace in KwaZulu-Natal.
He was elected president of the party in 2007 and subsequently served as president of the country.
After allegations of having enabled state capture, he lost the confidence of the ANC and was recalled.
Zuma resigned as president of the republic in 2018.
