Radio Jamaica Sports understands that the council of the Aquatic Sports Association of Jamaica (ASAJ) has voted to uphold the recommendation for a 10 year suspension for Kaizen Swim Club coach Rory Alvaranga at its most recent meeting earlier this week.
It’s understood that the council voted in favour of the suspension by more than 2-1, as approximately 68% agreed with the disciplinary committee’s recommendation, while 32% voted against.
It came after a three member disciplinary committee which included Chief Justice Bryan Sykes, recommended the 10 year sanction for Alvaranga after a hearing into an allegation of physical assault which took place last year.
In a report seen by Radio Jamaica Sports, the committee determined based on the evidence provided, that Alvaranga did in fact, physically assault one of his charges on June 30 of last year at the YMCA Pool.
The report also said Alvaranga did not contest whether the incident occured. ASAJ vice president Georgia Sinclair confirmed the outcome with Radio Jamaica Sports.
Radio Jamaica Sports understands that Alvaranga has not yet been formally notified of the decision.
