At the mercy of HDC’s sub-par contractors

There is a prevailing issue in most, if not all, in the townhouses’ common bathrooms. The bathroom tiles are not properly fitted, leaving a gap between the tiles and the back wall which causes leaks from the common bathroom to the floor below. This problem is widespread among the townhouses—most, if not all, were constructed this way.

A “new contractor” was assigned to fix the issue, and a labourer was sent to do the repairs. However, when the supervisor came to verify and sign off on the work, he admitted that the job was done poorly. The tiles were not cut to size, leaving gaps around each tile. This means that when the shower is used, water will seep through the cracks, leading to mould and further leaks.

At this point, I was flabbergasted. Not only did the original labourers and tile workers fail to do a good job, but the new workers sent to fix the problem also lacked the necessary skills.

When I asked the supervisor why the worker didn’t realise his job was sub-par, he responded that he had never seen the worker’s previous work. The worker was simply sent by the “boss man” who claimed he knew about tiling; but the supervisor could not speak to the quality of his work because he had never actually seen it.

So, once again, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is building sub-par units and then hiring sub-par contractors to offer “temporary” fixes. It seems they are trying to maximise their finances by providing the least possible quality in both products and services. Many HDC homeowners, like myself, are left questioning, “Does this make any sense?”
