NEW DELHI: US
President Joe Biden
and
former President Donald Trump
secured victories in
Louisiana
‘s primary on Saturday, further solidifying their respective party nominations.
Biden also participated in
Missouri
‘s Democratic primary, with results slated for release next week. The outcomes were largely anticipated, as both candidates had already emerged victorious over their main rivals.
Nonetheless, political observers closely monitored the primary races for voter turnout and indications of dissent.
Biden faced criticism from certain liberal factions expressing discontent over Israel’s conflict with Hamas, triggered by the militant group’s recent attack. The ongoing violence in Gaza has led to a tragic toll of over 30,000 casualties, predominantly women and children, according to Gaza authorities. In a show of solidarity, a protest movement initiated by Arab American communities in Michigan has now gained momentum across multiple states.
Trump, the prominent figure in the Republican Party, secured his third consecutive nomination. However, some individuals within his party raised concerns regarding the legal challenges he currently confronts and his handling of the aftermath of the January 6 insurrection.
This primary marked the Missouri Democratic Party’s first organized presidential contest since the implementation of a new law in August 2022. Louisiana’s primary, on the other hand, follows a nearly four-year delay caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
