DUNOON – Over 2,000 emergencies, mostly fires, have been reported in and around Cape Town this month.
In the latest incident, about 300 families from Ethembeni informal settlement have been left homeless.
It’s believed a person who had been drinking was cooking, but passed out, leading to the fire.

Authorities say they’ve been holding year-round awareness campaigns.
They are now pleading with people to take care with open fires in the hot, dry, windy cape weather.
