Booth builder shot dead in Savannah

Gunmen shot and killed a man yesterday afternoon as he was building vending booths around the Queen’s Park Savannah in preparation for Carnival 2024.

Akeil Archer was killed instantly when he was shot multiple times.

He had just completed erecting one of the booths, said police.

Investigating officers said Archer was in the process of loading material in the tray of a brown Mazda T3500 truck near the Savannah’s Paddock and across the road from TGI Fridays around 1 p.m. when a white pick-up drove into the path of the truck.

Archer jumped from the tray of the vehicle and attempted to escape his attackers but occupants of the pick-up chased after him and opened fire, hitting him multiple times before escaping.

Officers of the Region I Homicide Bureau of Investigations are continuing enquiries into the killing.

Officers said up to yesterday evening, they had not established a motive for his murder.

Archer was one of six people murdered between Saturday night and yesterday afternoon.

Around 7.30 p.m. on Saturday, Shakell George, 25, was shot and killed along Belle Eau Road, Belmont, after meeting someone he planned to sell an item.
Investigators said as George met the men, a black Nissan X-Trail pulled up nearby and several men got out and opened fire.

George ran for a short distance then collapsed at Walcott Lane, where he died.

Also on Saturday evening, investigators said 48-year-old bar owner and CEPEP contractor Vickram Ramlal was sitting on a bench outside CoopSammy Bar at Pasea Main Road in Tunapuna when he was shot and killed.

They said a red Toyota Yaris car pulled up and an occupant of the car shot Ramlal before the vehicle sped off.

Ramlal was placed in a vehicle by one of the bar’s patrons and taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where he was pronounced dead around 7.35 p.m.

Following his murder, police said the driver crashed the getaway vehicle into a maxi-taxi near Prescott Lane before the occupants abandoned the car and ran off.

In an unrelated incident, a man identified as Adrian Stratum was shot and killed at Bartlett Road, Longdenville, Chaguanas, around 11 p.m. on Saturday.
