Central Sports stay unbeaten

Central Sports maintained their unbeaten run in the Premiership 1 Sunday League 50-over tournament, defeating Merry Boys by six wickets at Invaders Ground in Felicity, in the second round of the competition yesterday.

Batting first, Merry Boys were dismissed for 112 in 30.5 overs with leg-spinner Imran Khan grabbing four wickets for 21 runs. Daron Cruickshank hit 56 for Merry Boys to boost the total but it wasn’t enough in the end.

Central Sports, who won the three-day League title last month, lost three early wickets in the chase before Keagan Simmons struck an unbeaten 56 to steady the innings, seeing them over the line on 115 for four in 16.4 overs.

In another key match yesterday, Yannic Cariah bagged five wickets for 37 and scored 49 runs as Queen’s Park Cricket Club defeated PowerGen Penal Sports by four wickets at the Queen’s Park Oval to maintain their perfect record in the competition.

Batting first, Cephas Cooper (54) and Navin Bidaisee (74) both struck half-centuries as the visitors recovered from 11 for two in the seventh over to post 209 all out.

In reply, Queen’s Park skipper Isaiah Rajah hit 65 while Cariah made 49 to put the hosts on course for the win with the Parkites eventually getting to 213 for six to seal their second win of the campaign.

In other results yesterday, defending champions Clarke Road United bounced back from their shock opening round loss against Preysal Sports with a four-wicket win away to Profilbau Victoria United in Barrackpore.

At the Daren Ganga Recreation Ground, Victoria were dismissed for 85 with Vikash Mohan grabbing six wickets for 21 runs. Clarke Road lost a few early wickets but were never in danger of losing as they replied with 88 for six off 19.4 overs to seal the win.

After scoring an upset in the opening round, Preysal fell flat against Marchin Patriots at Inshan Ali Park in Preysal yesterday. The home team were dismissed for 161 with the Patriots replying with 165 for five in 31 overs with Evin Lewis hitting a quick 50 off 27 ball to set up the successful chase.
